Coffee Shop: Post Alley Cafe

The Post Alley Cafe is located in the heart of the University district and integrates contemporary architecture and Art Deco motifs. It is part of the historic boutique Hotel Deca which is located on the Southeast corner of 45th and Brooklyn. The large windows across the front bring a bright atmosphere to the cafe’s ample seating, which includes tables, booths and window nooks.
It would be a lovely place to meet with a friend, do some work or just soak in some warmth from the rather delicious coffee. They use a local coffee roaster, Herkimer coffee, and partner with other local companies to continue to bring local products into their offerings. In addition to their coffee and general snacks, they offer breakfast and lunch options, as well as beer and wine. |

Coffee Shop: Anchored Ship Coffee Bar

I was joined for this month’s coffee shop exploration by my sweet nephew, Gus. Anchored Ship Coffee Bar is located on Ballard Avenue, right in the heart of downtown Ballard and used to be a tiny hole in the wall, so from the outside it has a small street presence. However, once you go in it features two distinct seating areas: one in a loft above the coffee bar and another raised seating area at the back of the shop.
A recent remodel provided these new interior spaces, and many use them for a go-to coffee and laptop work spot- as well as a casual catch up spot for old friends. Anchored Ship is proud to serve Counter Culture espresso beans, available in a delightful variety of roasts (and are also sold as whole bean if you want to take some home with you). It’s signature drink is the lavender chai and what caught my eye was their unique cardamom syrup- which had a light flavor without being overly sweet. |
